Private Leadership Development · San Francisco Peninsula
Horses don’t care about your title. They respond to who you actually are.
An equine-assisted leadership experience for executives, founders, and teams who have done the books, the offsites, and the slide decks — and are ready for feedback that is honest in seconds, impossible to argue with, and impossible to forget.
Private and small by design. Every engagement begins with a complimentary consultation. · No riding. No horse experience required.
The gap no seminar closes
You’ve already done it all. There’s still a gap.
You’ve read the leadership books. Sat through the offsites. Built something real. And still there is a gap between everything you know about leadership and how you actually show up when the pressure lands.
Traditional development trains your head. But your team doesn’t follow your knowledge. They follow your presence, your steadiness, your ability to stay grounded when everything around you shifts.
A horse doesn’t care about your title, your funding round, or your resume — and it will show you, in real time, exactly how you come across. That is where this work starts.

Why horses
A mirror that weighs 1,200 pounds — and won’t flatter you.
Horses are prey animals. Their survival depends on reading intention, energy, and incongruence in an instant — in the herd, and in you. That makes them the most honest leadership coaches on earth.
Feedback in seconds, not quarters
No 360 review cycle, no waiting for the next offsite debrief. Shift your presence and the horse responds immediately. You learn it in your body, not just your notebook — which is why it lasts.
They read what words hide
Say one thing while feeling another, and the horse believes what you feel. That gap between intention and impact is exactly where leadership breaks down in the boardroom.
Trust cannot be forced
You cannot dominate, incentivize, or present your way into a horse’s trust. You earn it with clarity, calm, and consistency — precisely the way you earn it from a team.

Leadership in a Box
Your team must guide two miniature horses into a box marked on the ground — using only non-verbal communication. Nobody can give orders. Everyone has to read the room, and the horses.
Within ten minutes it surfaces exactly how your team coordinates under pressure: who leads, who disengages, who pushes too hard. Then we debrief what it means back at the office — while no one can argue with what the horses just showed them.
“I was surprised how much the horses’ personalities affect our energy. Watching my team learn each other’s communication styles — the driver, the analytical, the amiable, the expressive — makes it a lot easier to handle whatever comes up next.”— Daryl, President, ColdCraft
The experience
What a private half-day actually looks like.
Four hours, carefully sequenced. No lectures, no slide decks, no trust falls — a progression of ground-based work with the horses, each exercise building on the last, with facilitated reflection that ties everything back to your workplace.
- Arrival
Settle in
Coffee and introductions at the barn. Safety briefing, ground rules, and the intention each person is bringing into the arena.
- Arena · 1
Meet the herd
First contact exercises. Watch how quickly the horses sort out who is present, who is performing, and who is somewhere else entirely.
- Arena · 2
The signature work
Exercises like Leadership in a Box, built around your group’s real friction points — communication, pressure, trust, delegation.
- Break
Catered lunch & reflection
Time to eat, talk, and reconnect away from the arena — where some of the most honest conversation of the day happens.
- Arena · 3
Apply it
A second round in the arena, deliberately applying what the morning revealed. The difference — in you and in the horses — is visible.
- Close
Commitments, in writing
Every participant leaves with a written 30-day action plan. Sponsors receive a written summary report, and the group reconvenes for a debrief call two weeks later.
Taming the Inner Critic
Our most-requested workshop, on camera. The 3 R’s framework — Recognize, Reframe, Respond — for quieting the sabotaging voice your team can feel even when you never say it out loud.

The method
The G.R.O.W.T.H. Framework
Every engagement runs on a six-part framework that braids together three disciplines most leadership training keeps apart: equine-assisted coaching, personal development, and regenerative agriculture principles. Healthy systems renew themselves. So can the way you lead.
Grounded in Mission & Values
Get clear on what you actually stand for, so your decisions stop pulling in six directions.
Recognizing the Sabotaging Voice
Name the inner critic running the show — the one your team can feel even when you never say it out loud.
Overcoming Obstacles
Build the mindset and mental frameworks that turn stuck into moving.
Worldview Expansion
See the bigger field you’re operating in — and the options you were missing while heads-down.
Tend Relationships
Learn your communication style, and how to genuinely connect with the people you lead.
Harvest Through Action
Turn insight into declarations and written accountability, so it holds long past the parking lot.
Outcomes
Not theory. A different way of showing up.
By the end of the session participants won’t just understand these — they will have felt them, practiced them, and received honest feedback on each.
Presence people feel before you speak
The grounded, settled authority that turns a room toward you — without raising your voice.
Lead without forcing
The difference between pressure that builds trust and pressure that quietly erodes it. Direct, without dominating.
Regenerate your energy
The regenerative principle that healthy systems renew themselves, applied to how you lead — not just how you manage time.
Clarity on your pattern
The exact leadership habit you cannot see in yourself, revealed by an animal with no reason to flatter you.

Engagements
Three ways into the arena.
Same horses, same honest feedback — in the format that fits where you are. Every engagement is private, facilitated by both coaches, and capped small on purpose.
Executive Coaching, 1:1
Private sessions with the horses for a leader working through a specific pattern, decision, or transition. Deep, personal, and entirely confidential.
Public Workshops
Half-day, small-cohort sessions on communication, presence, self-doubt, and play — including Taming the Inner Critic. Offered in seasonal rounds.
The next round is being scheduled now.
Private Team Intensives
A half-day built privately around your team’s real friction points — not a canned curriculum. The fastest route into the arena, and the engagement executive sponsors book again.
For leadership teams
Team building that earns its budget.
Most leadership training is a conference room and a slide deck. This is a working session with measurable follow-through: it begins before your team arrives, and it is still working two weeks after they leave.
Discovery, first
A 30-minute consultation and a short participant survey surface your team’s friction points, communication gaps, and goals — before anyone steps into the arena.
A custom half-day
Four hours in the arena with two facilitators, exercises designed around what discovery revealed, and a catered break to reflect and reconnect.
Debrief & written report
A group debrief call at two weeks, a written 30-day plan from every participant, and a summary report for the executive sponsor. Momentum, documented.
Leadership Intensive
For teams that want measurable growth. We run the G.R.O.W.T.H. framework hard: presence, communication, friction, and the patterns in your team’s way.
- Sharper communication and trust
- Leaders who stay grounded under pressure
- Written 30-day plan per person, plus a sponsor debrief
Team Reset & Reconnect
For teams that are burnt out, freshly merged, or overdue for real connection. Lower-stakes, high-trust — and not a single trust fall in sight.
- A genuine morale and energy reset
- Reconnection that outlasts the offsite
- A shared experience nobody quietly resents
For the executive sponsor
You are accountable for what this day produces, so here is what lands on your desk: the discovery findings, every participant’s written 30-day commitment, a facilitated debrief at two weeks, and a written summary report tying the arena work to your team’s stated goals. Ground-based throughout, supervised by a USEF-certified trainer — no riding, no special equipment, no horse experience assumed.
Signs your team is ready
- New managers learning to lead former peers
- Teams hitting their numbers — and burning out
- Office and field leadership talking past each other
- Post-merger or rapid-growth teams losing cohesion
- Founders learning to delegate without lowering the bar
- The same conflict, showing up in different people
Our standard
A considered decision — never a sales pitch
Every engagement starts with a conversation, not a contract. On a complimentary consultation we’ll learn what your team is actually working through — and if this isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you plainly and point you somewhere better suited. If it is the right fit, we design the day around your people, and the follow-through is built in: written plans, a debrief, and a sponsor report, included as standard, not sold as extras.
Facilitators
Two facilitators. One unusual pairing.
A seasoned equine professional and a leadership coach, in the arena together all day. One reads the horses. The other translates what they show you into how you lead on Monday morning.
Client voices
“This is different.”
“This is different.”
You don’t really get this kind of thing from corporate workshops or ropes courses. There’s something really special and powerful about horses. I don’t think anyone would really have a good excuse to miss it.
“Highly encourage any business owner with a small team.”
This is a very unique workshop with the horses. I’d highly encourage any business owner with a small team to do it, to build a stronger, more cohesive team.
“Leadership isn’t just about me.”
I learned that leadership isn’t just about me. It’s also about the people you’re leading, and what you want to do for them.
“Everyone has one.”
I came to realize that everyone has an inner critic. In this workshop, we didn’t just deal with it alone.
Before you ask
The honest answers.
Do I need any horse experience?
None at all. Most participants have never worked with a horse. The exercises are designed for complete beginners, and the facilitators guide you through every moment.
Is it safe? Will I be riding?
You will not ride. Everything happens on the ground, beside the horse, under the direct supervision of a USEF-certified trainer and a trained facilitator. Safety is built into the structure of the day.
What if I’m nervous around horses?
That’s normal — and it’s part of the work. How you meet something big and unfamiliar with calm is exactly the kind of presence we’re building. You’ll never be pushed past what feels safe.
Who is this for?
Founders, executives, and high-achieving leaders who run people and sense a gap between what they know and how they show up — and leadership teams that need to communicate, trust, and reset together. It is not another lecture or a slide deck of theory. This is experiential.
What does a private team half-day cost, and what’s included?
$3,000 for up to 6 participants, four hours in the arena. It includes the discovery consultation and participant survey, two facilitators, catered lunch, a written 30-day action plan for every participant, a two-week group debrief call, and a written summary report for the executive sponsor. Groups up to 10 by arrangement. See the full breakdown.
Where is it held, and what should we wear?
Ember Ridge Equestrian Center in Moss Beach, on the Coastside, and Westwind Community Barn in Los Altos Hills, for Silicon Valley teams. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little dusty. Coffee and snacks are provided.
Can we make a day — or a weekend — of it?
Yes. Joan and Ranger live and work on the Coastside and the Peninsula and know both areas well. If your team wants to extend the workshop with places to stay, dine, and explore, ask on the consultation and they’ll share their favorites.
How do we know if this is the right fit?
Every engagement begins with a complimentary 30-minute consultation. We’ll learn your goals and friction points and tell you honestly whether this work fits — if it doesn’t, we’ll say so, and no team is ever booked into a format that doesn’t serve them. That’s the point of the conversation: a considered decision, on both sides.
